Nothing is better than actually going out and performing magic for people in the street. Any magician can do this but to be remembered you MUST have a solid plan of attack. This post will hopefully help you routine your magic for a much better and memorable experience for both you and the spectators.
- Know what you can do
Before doing anything you MUST understand your abilities. Nobody should ever go out and perform magic unless they have thoroughly mastered what they will be performing. It is simple, if you don’t master your magic you WILL be remembered, but for all the wrong reasons.
- List your Magic
Before trying to make up any routine of your magic it is important to list out everything you have mastered. Don’t add your latest magic tricks to the list as these won’t be mastered, I don’t care how well you think you have practiced them, you need to practice them for a while more.
- How long to Perform
The next step is to think about how long you are going to be performing for at a time. You have to bear in mind that this is not a stage show but street magic. People have things to do and do not want to be standing around for an hour or two watching somebody perform magic tricks. Just a couple of good magic tricks could be enough and then simply walk away.
Some of your magic tricks will be much longer than others so this needs to be thought about when deciding on the length of time you will be performing for.
- Spice it up
Like I said people don’t want to be standing around for long periods. This is especially true when the magic is boring. Don’t choose a bunch a card tricks to perform that all revolve around a spectator picking a card and you finding it. Spice it up with a variety of different kinds of magic.
- Time to Plan
So you have your list of mastered magic tricks? If not, why not? Try to keep up. Now it is time to plan the order you want to be performing your magic tricks. The idea is to try and make one magic trick lead in to another. If you do a pick a card, I’ll find it magic trick, then use that card to start the next trick. It is pretty simple once you start.
- Build it up
Don’t start with your strongest effect first and then go in to something simple. If spectators see that the magic is going downhill, they will quickly lose interest in what you’re doing. Start with something quick and snappy and then work up to your best trick.
Hope this post will help in some way when it comes time to plan your street magic routine. Feel free to share your own tips below, or ask questions and I’ll do my best to help you out.
